#195.5 - Commentary: Epic. Fail.

The above is NOT filler… but it is straight-to-the-gut commentary:

Yes… anyone who believes this is anything more than a presentation made by a technology bewitched director really wasn’t paying attention. Hello plastic men much? Whatever happened to gravity? Apparently in Beowulf’s universe it didn’t exist! Who was Beowulf related to, perhaps, Spiderman?

Surely this is a problem that plagued early 1990’s CGI, not the astounding software achievements of the late 2010’s? 300 cameras… Yes, I’m sure they mean software cameras. Who in their right mind would waste that much film? Well acted perhaps, but not rendered with any consideration to reality!

A horse of that size jumping a burning bridge… oh would anyone remotely acquainted with equestrian jumping notice that’s say… impossible? Try jumping period! Good luck, friends. Denoted “intensely violent”, that isn’t my issue, as it wasn’t just the animation that lacked gravity.

By this I mean a sense of dramatic gravity - you know, caring that the old fart died at the end? Oh, for what, glory, or the girth of his trouser-satchel? What are you saying Zemekis? Is this the measure of all men? All that we have been and ever shall be?

What a truly dismal and hideous image to paint.

Neil Gaiman - shame on you.
