#199 - Do Like Answers
As much as I enjoyed the shift, doing it late was not exactly my idea of rollicking entertainment. A little stint at the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV. That’s right. Ironically, a game about the criminal underbelly must be sold in an orderly a fashion as possible. No shoving.
Few understand just what a game like this means to the industry, and the sort of games we’ll be playing in the future. When an NPC has enough intelligence to try and save himself after being catapulted out a window, just ponder what is in store - literally. Obviously the limits of what is acceptable will be assaulted, as always, as reactions become more realistic.
However, the answer to hardware sales has finally arrived. Nintendo is going to be hard pressed to keep up with software development on this particular scale. Is it really possible for the Wii to approach the processing bandwidth required to fuel these titles? How soon is an upgrade now?
It’s all a matter of marketing, naturally, and Nintendo will win with its fans. Yet I am concerned for a system that still fails to see Rock Band as a release, when even the aging PS2 has it. Some hits were taken - character customization, downloadable content, overall graphic smoothness… but it is present.
Let us see what is next, eh?
